Newspapers- Frankfurter Rundschau for Opel
24/01/2010
The closure of the Opel factory in Antwery was predictable, the Frankfurter Rundschau writes, but criticises the ruthless approach of its parent company General Motors: "It's true that the Astra production in Antwerp has long been in danger. And even would-be investor Magna couldn't guarantee that the plant would be kept open. But the problem is the way the closure is being handled - in an unceremonious, Wild-West manner. The rest of the employees in Europe shouldn't fool themselves into thinking that this latest decision has nothing to do with them or heave a sigh of relief because they won't be affected. The decision on Antwerp is a sign of how ruthless the GM managers can be. ... The only thing left for the employees in Europe to do is to resist - at the top of their voices." (22/01/2010)
